We’re pumped to share that one of our own, Dominik Winecki, PhD student in OSU Computer Science & Engineering and longtime OHI/O community member, is the first to be featured in Imageomics’ Chain Reaction — a new series highlighting rising stars shaping the future of science through computation and creativity.

Dominik’s work is making waves in the Imageomics world (yeah, it’s as cool as it sounds 🦁📹). He’s tackling the frustrating, messy world of video data in biology—think animal videos needing endless annotation—and making it smarter, faster, and way more user-friendly.

His latest creation, VidFormer, is like a turbocharger for video annotation. It speeds up processing 2–3x by letting researchers visualize what they’re doing almost instantly, no headache-inducing code rewrites needed. It’s not just a tool, it’s a whole infrastructure rethinking how we interact with videos.

Oh, and did we mention? He’s taking this work global 🌍—presenting it at ACM MMSys 2025 in South Africa!

Dominik’s journey is a perfect example of what happens when creativity, research, and hacker spirit collide. From hackathon regular to Imageomics innovator, we’re beyond proud to see him light the path for others.

Next up in the series? Dominik gives a shoutout to Otto Brookes from the University of Bristol. Follow the chain and meet the future.
