Presented by OHI/O and Youth for STEM Equity, Code I/O is a coding enrichment program that features a Tech Escape Room, immersive problem-solving experiences via hack-a-thons, AI Virtual Reality demonstrations, and resources for hands-on exploration of real-world challenges with guidance from industry professionals. 2025 has a focus on AI and its uses for a social good. Prior to the main event, two workshops will be conducted to familiarize participants with hackathon dynamics and introduce coding fundamentals like Java, HTML, Scratch, and Binary code. This initiative aims to inspire curiosity, foster collaboration, and open doors to coding opportunities. Join Code I/O for a day of learning, creativity, and technological exploration. ELIGIBILITY

Code I/O is open to all middle school students, regardless of coding experience. Whether you’re a coding prodigy or a beginner, Code I/O welcomes you!

STEM Escape Room: Crack the Code! – Embark on a thrilling coding journey in our STEM Escape Room. Solve puzzles, unravel challenges, and experience the excitement of coding in an interactive escape room setting.

AI VR Demonstrations: Soar into the Future of Tech!See how AI surrounds us all and the way it is rapidly changing how we solve issues. Engage with leading researchers and interact with VR goggles to visualize the impact of AI.

Industry Problem-Solving: Hackathon – Tackle real-world challenges with hands-on industry problem-solving sessions. Collaborate with peers to devise innovative coding solutions and discover the impact of technology on various industries.

Gain More Coding Experience – Network with industry professionals and other students who will guide your coding journey. Explore potential avenues to enhance your coding skills and pursue your passion for technology via resources regarding research, internships, and learning guides.

Yes–we ask all students to stay during the entire duration of the program, as CODE I/O aims to provide a cohesive learning experience.

Not at all. Students are dropped off in the morning and picked up in the evening. Our team members will lead sessions and ensure a safe and fun learning environment.

Of course! CODE I/O provides a unique learning experience each year and it creates a collaborative space for students to engage in meaningful problem solving and career development. Whether you have done it before or are a first timer, it is a great opportunity to expand your knowledge and discover yourselves.

We have industry professionals come in from local corporations, universities, and teams to engage with the student, provide feedback, and give resources that provide the next step in their development.

Students will be provided with breakfast and lunch during the program. If there are any underlying allergies, then please state them in the sign-up form. Additionally, ensure the student knows their underlying allergies as well.

Students will be recognized during the Hack-a-Thon portion for creatively designing a solution using tech resources for a problem.
